I’ve been mulling this over bc I’m increasingly labelled an “influencer” by others, but I do not consider myself one. So I’m looking to interrogate why I resent the label (& if it’s justified), what the distinction is for me (& why), and how/whether to apply that to others.
This is a discussion I’d like to see more of across the disability community — that of disabled influencers monetizing “advocacy”/“activism,” and the difference between an activist & an influencer (if you think there is one — which I think I do).
I think all of this is bringing forward a really important discussion around influencers monetizing advocacy. White neurodivergent people should not be the ones leading discussions around neurodivergent experiences, challenges, and realities. Yet their voices are the loudest.

We NEED to be telling more disabled stories. In the press and on the tv. The stigma that allows Pip payments to be attacked AGAIN can only be solved by understanding and empathy. This cannot go on.
