ok dumb question... if I create a private GitHub repo and upload all my pics and documents there, do I even need Google Drive anymore right? 😭

Interviewed a Senior Backend Engineer today. Knew Redis, queues, concurrency, distributed systems — all of it. Then I asked: "Your app sends a welcome email when a user registers. Due to a network blip, the client retries the request. Your server processes it twice. The user receives two welcome emails. You add a check: if email already sent, skip it. But two requests arrive simultaneously. Both check at the same time. Both see: email not sent. Both send the email. The user still gets two emails. How do you make this operation safe?" Silence. Your turn: Request retried due to network blip ❌ Two simultaneous checks both pass ❌ Two emails sent ❌ Simple if-check not enough ❌ How do you guarantee an operation runs exactly once — no matter how many times it is triggered? 👇 (This is called idempotency — every payment system in the world depends on getting this right)
