@NoContextHumans For those asking: This is color psychology 101. The use of red in 2022, for lower temperatures than in 2017, gives the illusion that the temperatures are beyond normal range – which raises human alarm. News is now a clicks-based business. Normalcy does not equal ad revenue.
@JoshChavis65 @NoContextHumans Except it’s not. They’re different types of maps, as they were in 2017 and before that. Also, it’s German public broadcasting news, which hardly relies on ad revenues. The only psychology 101 here is that people know that sharing misleading memes works with a certain crowd.
@dfsdilletante @JoshChavis65 @NoContextHumans Why would the map be red for 75° F in June though? LOL The initial tweet did not hit the mark, but it's still kind of funny
@dfsdilletante Mumpitz, it's exactly about manipulating people. (The public news have stopped criticizing those ruling the country - ring no alarms of yours?) Nobody would use a screaming red for 25°C on such a map. Or are you fine with -5C° getting depicted as dark-blue or -purple?
@dfsdilletante @JoshChavis65 @NoContextHumans Broadcast news is dependent on money as well. Look who runs the news and who decides what is being reported and how it is transported.
@dfsdilletante @JoshChavis65 @NoContextHumans It's an animated heat map showing the progression of temperature over the country.
