Hope in Hell S03E12 Part 3 Lessons Learnt, Real Change, Safer Prisons youtu.be/kqPW5jYeFC4 In the final part of our Hope in Hell conversation, POA NEC members Phil and Dave join Gary and Rodney to look at the growing pressures facing prisons — and what needs to change. From violence, organised crime and mental health to officer wellbeing, rehabilitation and lived experience, the discussion asks how prisons can become safer, more effective places for everyone inside them. Despite the scale of the challenges, the episode also looks at what works, the people already making a difference, and where meaningful progress is still possible.

Understaffed, Unsupported, Underfunded Hope in Hell S03E12 pt 2 youtube.com/watch?v=UuPTdw… In part two of our Hope in Hell conversation, POA NEC members Phil and Dave continue the discussion alongside Gary and Rodney, looking at the pressures facing Prison Officers and the wider prison system. The episode explores staff support, rehabilitation, resettlement and the investment needed to make prisons safer, more effective places to work and to rehabilitate.

Understaffed, Overcrowded, Under Pressure youtube.com/watch?v=F7RLR3… The POA recently joined the Hope in Hell podcast for the first part of a three-part conversation exploring the pressures facing today’s prison system from both the frontline and lived-experience perspectives. POA National Executive Committee members Phil and Dave discuss the impact of understaffing, overcrowding, reduced regimes, recruitment and retention challenges, and the loss of experienced officers, alongside Gary and Rodney’s reflections on how these pressures affect prisoners, rehabilitation and safety across the estate. It is a wide-ranging and candid discussion about the realities facing both staff and prisoners, and the importance of properly resourcing the service if prisons are to operate safely and effectively.

@JamesTCobbler @POAUnion @POAnatchair

This morning I visited HMP Frankland to thank and support our prison officers.

Like everyone I was appalled by the attack at the weekend. As an immediate response we have suspended the use of kitchens for prisoners held in separation centres. We have also launched an independent review into how this attack was able to happen. We will set out the terms of reference and scope in the coming days.

I've valued constructive conversations with the Prison Officers Association, and I am particularly grateful to the Governor and his team at the prison for their time today and views. I am inspired by the bravery and the way they have handled this incident.

As I have told them this morning, this government will do everything it can to protect those working in our prisons.
