Dear @sajidjavid. My 90 yrs old mum needs her GP. There is a universal problem, patient's are asked to call at 8am. Before 8am the phone is unanswered. After 8am the phones are engaged. Upon finally connecting, there are no available ppointments. Cannot live like this.
@doctorshaib @sajidjavid Fought for 10 days to get help when I knew my sister was in her last days with cancer, only got it when I had to call 999 to pick her up off the floor as I couldn't manage it. She died a few hours after the help came that she should have had 10 days earlier. I am so angry!
@doctorshaib @sajidjavid This has been a thing for like 20 years tbf
@doctorshaib @sajidjavid Wow! Really can’t believe practices still operate like this. Phone ours at anytime between 0800-1800 and if a patient needs seen, they will be. Surely another local practice must operate differently
@doctorshaib @manwithamop @sajidjavid This has been the case for as long as I can remember, I heard that it became commonplace after the government (Blair) set an expectation on same-day appointments. In order to meet these targets surgeries stopped allowing booking ahead so all appointments would be same-day…
@doctorshaib @en_lightenment @sajidjavid My father died because he couldn't see a GP for 2 yrs. After he had paid taxes for so many years this is unacceptable and needs to be investigated. The Tory governments in the last 12yrs have intentional run down the NHS to private it.
@doctorshaib @sajidjavid And this is a experience many, if not the majority, of people are finding. It is hitting the most vulnerable, so the elderly and infirm & vulnerable are first in@lind to suffer.
@doctorshaib @sajidjavid We do not have a functioning healthcare system.
@doctorshaib @VintiquesMark @sajidjavid If your mom or whoever cares for her has her accessing 'online services' you should be able to book her a slot w/a GP at first for a telephone call and a f2f meeting should be easily booked. Speaking for EMIS software but pretty sure SystemOne should ave a similar possibility.
