Andrew Coyne @ #AMO2024. Says we are living in the “age of anxiety.” The foundation of democracy - debate & decision-making - is under attack. To have effective democracy, we need a population that agrees on basic facts about the world, but people have opted-out of facts.
Populism is overtaking democracy, says Coyne. It is about defining “who is us, and who is them.” It divides. It is the opposite of democracy, and it’s a threat. People are vulnerable to it. It breeds hatred for expertise, facts, knowledge and reality. #AMO2024
