It is with great sadness that I acknowledge the passing of the Honourable Roland 'Roy' McMurtry. An Ontario Member of Provincial Parliament, Attorney General and Solicitor General, Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Chief Justice of Ontario, lawyer, husband, father, and wise leader at his very core. He oversaw important reforms to Ontario's justice system including bilingualism in the courts, multiculturalism and family law reform. For his profound impact, McMurtry was selected as a recipient of the Order of Ontario and an Officer of the Order of Canada. The Hon. Roy McMurtry will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to justice, enduring impact in government, strong leadership, and for inspiring those in pursuit of a more just and equitable society. He left an impact on his community, his province, and his country. He was a giant in his own right. May he rest in peace.
@douglasdowney Mr. McMurtry was truly one of the good guys, and a great human being. A gentleman to the core. One of the best attorneys general Ontario had. A great jurist. My deepest condolences to his family.
@douglasdowney Well said, Mr. Attorney-General. Roy was a visionary politician, a valued colleague, and friend. Many fond memories of our years in caucus.
@douglasdowney @ChiefTanner My deepest condolences.
