The Rhine derby is today in Cologne. But the real story is on the touchline. Gladbach are bottom of the Bundesliga with 0 points from 4 games. 16 goals conceded. The worst start in the club’s history. Alexander Blessin takes charge for the first time today, in the derby. No Gladbach coach has ever debuted against Köln. We know how Blessin works. In 2024-25 he took a St. Pauli side that barely scored and built the best defence in the league after Bayern: 41 conceded. Little talent, a lot of fight. Tight spaces, hard duels, pressure the moment the ball is lost. Now he’s trying to install that in a broken defence in one week. The players don’t know the system yet, but they all want to impress the new boss. That’s exactly where late challenges come from. Across the pitch: a Köln side that has taken every one of its points at home and is still unbeaten there. The last three derbies: 3-3, 3-1, 3-3. These games are never calm. 1/4 ✅ WON @ 2.85 Galatasaray v Kasımpaşa, 65th minute: the referee went to the monitor instead of trusting his own call. The market priced it like any other game. Exactly what I wrote this morning. Three games left, tomorrow and Sunday.

FOUR DIFFERENT GAMES. FOUR DIFFERENT CONTEXTS. ONE IDENTICAL PRICE: 2.85 Turkish refereeing is heading into the most fragile week in its history. The head of the Turkish FA’s Central Referee Committee, Ferhat Gündoğdu, has been arrested in the “Referees file” investigation and has resigned. Yasin Kol, the referee who took charge of more Turkish derbies than anyone over the past year, has also been arrested in the same probe. This week, Süper Lig referee appointments are being made by Anthony Taylor, now the committee’s Elite Referee Director. It’s the first time a foreign official has directly run the appointment process. Now put yourself in the shoes of the referee walking out this weekend. Your boss is under arrest. The colleague who handled the biggest games is under arrest. Every decision you make is under the microscope, and any call could end up in a case file. In that environment, referees don’t take risks. On the big calls, they’d rather go to the monitor than own the decision. VAR stops being a safety net and becomes a shelter. Where will that pressure be felt most? In the most watched, most debated, most contested games. The big four’s matches. The games I’m looking at this week (UTC+3): Galatasaray v Kasımpaşa (Fri 20:00) Samsunspor v Trabzonspor (Sat 16:00) Çaykur Rizespor v Fenerbahçe (Sat 19:00) Beşiktaş v Kocaelispor (Sun 19:00) Market: Total VAR on-field reviews, Over 0.5 Price: 2.85, in all four games. Four different games, four different contexts, one identical price. That implies roughly 35% per match, margin included. The market is pricing this as a normal week. I don’t think it is. #betting #superlig
