I never got to meet Pat. But when I made a left turn into this field (woefully underprepared), his beautiful, avuncular, & self-contained MIT Open Courseworks videos taught me about boosting, SVMs, and a bunch of other topics that were made unnecessarily impenetrable elsewhere.
