On Wednesday, I am recording a pod with the folks at @RockyMtnInst about the potential of state-level land use reform to contribute to the climate fight, based on their recent report. This is a rich topic, to say the least. What should I ask? rmi.org/why-state-land…
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst How to raise the salience of state level land use reform in places like NY, IL, CT, etc. that are overwhelmingly Dem and have climate-friendly leadership but way too many NIMBY Dems
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst Did the Gracchi go too far, or not far enough?
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst How much would increasing density also increase congestion and offset emissions reductions from reduced VMT?
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst Not to be a downer but would it be worth talking about ways that state govts are hampering the fight as well? Courtesy of ALEC &c.
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst Who has realistic modeling combining avoided emissions due to shifts to existing transit, shifts to proposed transit and uptake/likelihood of such transit usage given diverse job locations?
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst People have denigrated increasing tree cover as a way to reduce climate change, but it appears to work. How can this be integrated into a western context w/ increased forest fires? sciencedaily.com/releases/2024/…
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst A large part of the "housing shortage" is a cost issue: a large % of the population doesn't have incomes high enough to support the cost of new construction, especially in those regions producing the most jobs. How does RMI plan to lower costs of construction?
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst A big chunk of housing cost is infrastructure. That will get more expensive with climate impacts. Will states provide cities with infra $s? if not, where will those $s come from? And increased density often requires improvements in old existing infrastructure.
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst What is the most effective replacement for parking spots in a dense downtown without current mass transit
@drvolts @RockyMtnInst Exciting! I hope @Parking_Reform's efforts on this will get a mention.
