Retarded was one of my favorite words. I had a happy childhood of my classmates calling each other retards Nothing quite conveys the concept of sheer stupidity with such force as the word retard. Dumb, stupid… none of these words carry the same weight. Then one day someone decided that I can’t say retarded anymore, because it might hurt the feelings of someone who is actually mentally retarded. I didn’t protest, but it was a big loss to not be able to use this word anymore. I don’t get it. If you’re offended by the word retard then you’re probably not really retarded. I’m thinking of guys like Simple Jack. Does Simple Jack care that everyone knows he’s mentally challenged? No. Seems more about not annoying the parent than the actual person with the disability I hope one day my children, or my children’s children, can live in a world where they’re allowed to call their friend a retard in public without getting cancelled
@WholeMarsBlog I care for adults with learning disabilities and believe you me the use of that word is incredibly offensive to them, their families and friends alike. Out of respect to anyone who does find it offensive it shouldn’t be used.
@dsdavies1 @WholeMarsBlog If you're scared of offending people you're gay
I disagree with the hard line approach of emasculating a language... it has already gone way too far.. this is the slippery slope to censorship and control.. and don't get me started on all the DEI / woke bollox... I love this particular word.. but wouldn't dream of using it if i felt there was a risk of offending someone truly retarded... but used expeditiously, this word is awesome... 🤣
@dsdavies1 @WholeMarsBlog The word offensive is objectionable to me. It hurts my feelings and the feelings of my family greatly. Please stop using the o-slur and say objectionable from now on.
@dsdavies1 @WholeMarsBlog Did they all find it offensive in the 80’s and just didn’t speak up or did a small group convince everyone to be offended by it? It’s just phonetics. Seems like a lot of people are simply offended by hard syllables.
@dsdavies1 @WholeMarsBlog It literally mean slow. Why is that offensive? It’s a medical definition that was used for centuries. Am I no longer allowed to use the word retarder when referring to aromatic braking systems?? It’s so pointless.
@dsdavies1 @WholeMarsBlog It is not the word that causes the condition. “A warrior can be injured, but not offended.” (Carlos Castañeda). People need to take their lives more like warriors, in the good sense of the word, lest they ban that one too.
@dsdavies1 @WholeMarsBlog Easy times create weak men. Example A:
I’m Dyslexic and it doesn’t bother me. I think people are just up set for others way too much. Professional victims. When the learning disabled are offended we will speak for ourselves. I can tell when someone is using it in fun with friends vice as a slur directed at me or others. In the latter scenario they will use it or other slurs anyway as that is their goal and or objective. Let’s not then prohibit and words use in joking or sarcastic speech. I am the first to make fun of my disability as I know it is not the defining characteristic of what makes me me and I frankly don’t care what others think of me who I don’t know personally. If you do care what other think of you can you please grow a thinker skin. Especially if it’s not your skin you are offended about.
@dsdavies1 @WholeMarsBlog Disabled… learning disabilities is next. People just don’t want to be described as part of a perceived lower class or inferior.
