Lucky to have a Drake R-4c, Tx-4c and a few more accessories. Surprised to see it was employed for embassy communications. I remember that it was used as well for training in the Swedish civil defence. #shortwave #hf

The Swiss Embassy #Radio (Schweizerischer Botschaftsfunk), provided worldwide coverage to the Swiss department of foreign affairs. Some of the radios they operated were Drakes and Collins. Unfortunately, this reliable network ceased operations in 2015. #shortwave #hf

@cptnovalis @Kalla_Kriget I have seen it in real life, once in Danmarks Flymuseum, Stauning. And also in Sweden, but cannot recall the place. The size of the plane is impressive, first supersonic plane build in Europe, and precursor of the cobra manoeuvre.

Even though I am no mechanical engineer myself, I have worked with them enough to appreciate every single word in this tweet. Furthermore, I am convinced that we could find similar situations in the HW and SW fields in which I work. Really interesting write-up!

On another note, the ability to produce a beautifully crafted and clean diagram by hand, will be extinct sooner than we believe (if not already). Hopefully we will preserve and develop further, our abstraction and analytical skills.

As a kid in the 90s I had a chemistry set, a microscope, and an electronics set. These “toys” nurtured my curiosity and gave me countless hours of fun. However, I must admit I did not have something as thrilling as my own Atomic Energy Lab, which looks dangerously fun. #stem

Believe it or not, in the years 1950-1951, the A. C. Gilbert Company distributed the Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab, a toy kit allowing kids to make nuclear reactions at home using actual radioactive material. It was taken off the shelves in 1951 [more: bit.ly/2BTzsZW]

Unfortunately, Lego is discontinuing Mindstorms. I was lucky enough to learn assembly with a yellow RCX brick and robotic algorithms with Java and a NXT. Looking forward to having an alternative that can inspire future generations in tech. arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/1…
