Every woman at Paris Basel was Jane Birkin pilled and wore their Hermes bags open and sloppy - it felt very obvious that they all watched the same how to wear your birkin bag video. Someone should dare to be avant garde and close the clasp. This is my official review of the fair
So basically, you can accept any rent a landlord asks for and then retrospectively claim you were desperate, and a tribunal will change your rent because some properties that aren't the same size or even in the same building are being advertised at a lower price.
The long march towards Total Judicial Communism continues. We have devolved price setting to a couple of former solicitors scrolling Zoopla. Madness. telegraph.co.uk/money/property…
Dear Connor
1) What you are pointing to (ie: those who read this passage as “beat your wife”) are fundamentalists.
You are right that one needn’t be an Islamist to adopt this meaning.
Fundamentalism operates alongside Islamism as a distinct phenomenon. Both are a major problem in this day and age.
Islamism: a desire to synchronise any reading of Islam with law & impose it over society (eg: Muslim Brotherhood, HT) and then jihadists are those who use violence to achieve this (such as al-Qaeda / ISIS)
Fundamentalism: a medieval, vacuous approach to scripture in person and public (eg: pre MBS Saudi-school that forbade women from driving and forbade cinemas etc..)
These are not difficult definitions. One doesn’t need to have read the Qur’an to understand them. They are also explained in some detail in my dialogue with Sam Harris.
2) Your conclusion that the fundamentalist reading of the Quran in 4:34 “to beat your wife” is what the *true* meaning of the scripture is, and that the “moderate” meaning is deviating *away* from the true meaning, is problematic.
Applied to Christianity it would be like me insisting that the New Testament forbids women from teaching or being the boss of men at work, and cannot speak in public.
Timothy 2:12: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet”
It’s like insisting that this can only mean one thing, and must not be explained with reference to any other context else.
(The Old Testament is even easier to do this to)
For your information, the passage 4:34 says “strike”.
This can also be read (and has been by contemporary scholars) as “abandon them”. This is in the sense that people “strike” from work (ie: leave their jobs in protest).
This is particularly so, in contemporary readings, when combined with the fact that the Prophet (saw) never ever hit his wives, but did in fact abandon their abode when disputing with them, until they reconciled.
None of this is to deny that we are in an emergency situation when it comes to fundamentalism and Islamism and that more Muslims must start to speak out openly.

Frustrating to listen to Suella Braverman try to distinguish Islam from Islamism.
"I think you need to be a religious scholar to understand the tome of religious texts and I'm no religious scholar...."
"Have you read the Quran?"
"I haven't read the Quran."
Well, Muslims have,
This is very sad to hear. The Free Speech Union’s thoughts are with all of those at The Canary.
Debanking is arguably the most pernicious form of cancellation. We at the Free Speech Union are all to aware of what that expirence is like.
Banks must not have the power to effectively shut down an organisation — let alone the media — by removing their access to their funds purely because they and their staff disagree with its views or ideology.
The Canary will be closed for the foreseeable future.
As of today (Monday 19 October), the Canary will be closed indefinitely.
After multiple attacks this year, from Lloyds debanking us to former employees spreading malicious lies on social media, the situation has become
This stuff angers me so much.
An older building, actually restored for once. Someone not smashing it up to make student flats. Tradesmen, who care about their craft, restoring the brickwork and windows. The paintwork is excellent, and it’s great to see sash windows matching older tiles.
It’s a joy to see buildings like this. Not least in Portsmouth where so many have been lost. Makes a change doesn’t it?
But some little scrote thinks he’s more important than all that - more important than the thoughtful decisions, more important than the effort, and the physical labour, discernment and expertise of the craftsmen. His tag, which took ten seconds, matters more than all that. And more than them.
It’s pure, unadulterated narcissism. And a complete lack of respect for everyone else. I’ll never understand why some socialists, who care about the public realm, think such narcissistic behavior is acceptable. It’s a sign of deep spiritual alienation.
Statement from the European Network of Migrant Women — who represent many women who have fled religiously repressive cultures — about the recent European Parliament resolution on combatting Muslim Brotherhood infiltration in Europe.
I recommend you read it, it’s like balm for the soul. All the left-wing organisations and political parties in Brussels voted AGAINST the bill because they didn’t want to be accused of “Islamophobia”.
We are so lucky to still have organisations like this that care about the welfare of women, above anything else. Absolute heroines. This is principle, not political expediency. This is courage. Shoutout to @ENoMW
