@duetosymmetry @tdwiser The verb confluence means "To crowd, to furnish with a confluence of (people)," and conflux is, "To flow or run together, combine." Sure, it's "rare" and "obsolete," but that's your word. Some people here aren't looking up etymologies.

@duetosymmetry @tdwiser No need. Oxford English Dictionary says that the etymology is based on "flow together", but there's already a verb "confluence" and another, "conflux."

@bennjordan @verycooltony These colors are literally numbers, though! E.g., eight bits each for red, green, blue, alpha. Just call it a new name like "pink08430", because nobody can trademark or copyright a number.

@rgiordan The part that puts me off: It's a marketing ploy---A way for Popper to say, "Science is only the part of investigation that is based on the part I describe so well." But I'll keep looking into the disagreement. Thanks for posting about it.

@PhDemetri E.g., I like the Chicago Manual of Style, and if I'm tempted to say, "this *should* be the way," I'm going to quote that authority. I'm not much of a prescriptivist, but identifying a specific authority behind any "should" seems like a good idea.

@PhDemetri It depends. I write a lot of code, where you have a string literal, like, "foo". I'd usually say, "You have to pick your authority to avoid pointless quibbling."

@gedamore I noticed tree-sitter, saw it's a parser generator, and thought, "Hmm. Yacc existed a while ago. Wonder why we need tree-sitter." I'm sure they have an answer, but I'm interested in your personal take: Why do you like tree-sitter over yacc and its descendants?
