Legitimacy matters for school discipline, but many schools have lost legitimacy by undermining the basic social contract. #education #teachersoftiktok #edleadership #principalsoftiktok #safety #discipline #behavior
@eduleadership I mentioned Rousseau and Locke’s work to an administrator, and then he tried to fire me. Fortunately, he was fired by the new Superintendent, who actually read books. 😂
@eduleadership 1. When you exclude/suspend kids, you still need to educate them. 2. Antecedents of behavior are meaningful. Yes, the kid who got in a fight and broke another kid’s arm should be punished, but the teacher who was sitting on her phone in the corner, is responsible also.
@eduleadership But then the question is: Where on earth does this "reasonable punishment is evil" come from?
@eduleadership Just started following you, because I agree with every clip I’ve seen so far. 😀
@eduleadership Allowed inappropriate behavior from some students only increases the likelihood of inappropriate behaviors from others. If that student can throw a chair and not get sent home then I can swear at the teacher and know my consequences will be less than theirs.
