A ver qué excusa toca ahora.

It was a seemingly innocuous email, sent on a Wednesday morning in January 2017, that started everything. Arriving in the inbox of a senior official at Manchester City, it appeared to have been sent by an employee from European football’s governing body, UEFA, and contained a link to a financial compliance report. The City official clicked the download button. That was all it took. It was not a genuine email from UEFA but a successful phishing attempt by Portuguese hacker and activist Rui Pinto. City’s servers were breached, allowing Pinto to retrieve thousands of emails and documents from the club’s systems. This week, almost 10 years on from Pinto’s first email, the Premier League announced that an independent panel had found City guilty of all but one of the charges against them, as The Athletic first revealed last Friday. 📝 @jwhitey98: nyti.ms/4z5sgoL

Back in 2014, there was a man who was already aware of the irregularities involving Manchester City. That man now runs FIFA. The infamous Gianni Infantino, then UEFA General Secretary, abused his authority, shared confidential documents and, in short, outmanoeuvred the Investigatory Chamber, doing everything in his power to ensure that both Manchester City and PSG would merely receive a fine, avoiding a deeper investigation that could have led to a Champions League ban. All of these details were also revealed through Football Leaks. Given his actions as UEFA General Secretary and, more recently, as FIFA President, I can only say, in my humble opinion, that Gianni Infantino has become a cancer on football and should have no place in the future of the game.

Turns out Guardiola’s genius was his timing. That’s all. If you’ve worked with only the best wherever you’ve been you should be winning trophies. True genius is what Shankly Revie Busby did - build empires from nothing. And Clough who won Euro Cup twice with buttons.

So…… Let’s talk. How many Premier League titles have I won then? 🤔

🇪🇸🚨 | 𝘽𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙆𝙄𝙉𝙂: Pep Guardiola is now the manager linked to two of football’s biggest controversies. 🔵 Barcelona’s Negreira case — involving payments to a former refereeing chief. 🔵 Manchester City’s 115-case saga — with City reportedly found guilty of 114 charges.

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

Female jurors in the Lindsay Clancy trial rip the lone male holdout juror who refused to side with them. "He would not interact with us... He had the hardest time getting off the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children." Patriot.

Vini Jr won the ball back 9 TIMES tonight, the most recoveries of any Real Madrid attacker in a Bernabeu UCL game in the last 18 years.

Lionel Scaloni: "We are losing the essence of football. Not only at a professional level, but also with kids." "My children play in Spain and are overwhelmed with information. They receive the ball, and they're already being told what to do." "There are fewer dribblers because if they barely get the ball and you say, 'Pass it!'... Imagine if Messi, when he was eight years old, had been constantly told by his coaches to "Pass it!" We wouldn't have him today." "Football has become such a huge thing, everyone reads, studies, and thinks that with that, they can already manage." "If you tell a 7 or 8-year-old to make a diagonal run, cover defensively... He's seven years old! Let him play with the ball, make mistakes, and when he's 14 or 15, then we can start correcting." "It's a message for the future. This is a sport, and the beauty of football should not be lost."

Not a bad time to remember that Franco Mastantuono finished his first La Liga season with just 1 goal and 0 assists, and he is struggling at Fiorentina now. Xabi played him at wing ahead of Rodrygo, Brahim and Endrick. He is still not ready for European football. Hopefully, he will be one day. Xabi’s man-management at Madrid was a total mess. And people forget that it was not even one of the two main reasons for his sacking, due to the fake narratives. The bigger issues were the thrashings against almost every strong team he faced and his dispute with the club over the fitness/medical staff.

🚨 Xabi Alonso: "Vini not being undisputed in the XI? Everyone wants to play. Even Franco, when I was subbing him off, he looked at me and said "you're subbing ME?" and I said "Yes Franco, I'm subbing you", he was a bit mad. So everyone wants to play, not just Vini."
