Elegant and forceful exegesis of what money is, from @RichardJMurphy. Very much worth a read, it brings to mind Snowden’s despairing wail from 90 years ago: “Nobody told us we could do that!” (on the National Government’s devaluation). Well, Montagu Norman certainly didn’t.

Ten years! I am very much one for “serious music”, but art of any kind doesn’t get more serious than that created by Amy Winehouse. Such a loss: a greater loss than Joplin, Hendrix, Cobain, Morrison, even Lennon - for she was still in full creative flow. bbc.co.uk/news/av/entert…

Do this, as I just did: 1) listen to Martha Argerich playing Rachmaninov’s Third, Chailly/BRSO (stunningly brilliant); 2) reach the end and hear a storm of applause; 3) realise that it was live. Whatever Argerich sold her soul for, Mephistopheles got an unbeatable deal.
