I believe the best embedded solutions are those that not only meet today's requirements but are architected to adapt and scale as your needs evolve.embeddedarchitect.tech FloridaJoined August 2025
Your instrument is built to run for 10 years. Check how long its operating system edition is supported. If the OS ends first, the upgrade is a re-validation project, and someone has to own it before the date, not after. linkedin.com/company/embedd…
Good catch. Identical values after every boot usually mean the seed came from something that's the same after reset, like a tick counter or a RAM pattern that turns out not to be random. Worth checking whatever else gets seeded before the hardware RNG is up, such as packet IDs or nonces.
Consolidation moves the hard part into software. One in-cabin radar or camera now feeds child presence detection, driver monitoring and hands-on detection, so a single sensor fault has to degrade each function safely and separately. The hardware FMEA shrinks while the analysis of the fusion logic grows.
A stable signal still isn't a validated one. Earlobe perfusion shifts with temperature and posture, so an HRV trend can move for reasons unrelated to the wearer. And once a product claims anything about hormones, it needs its own clinical comparison data, not the evidence built for rings.
"As needed" is the part that turns this into a different kind of device. Once the implant decides when to intervene, the trigger logic, the sensor that feeds it, and what happens when that sensor drifts inside the body become the core of the risk file, more than the adhesive does.
Meaning drift also happens inside one site, through firmware. A controller update changes a value from bar to kPa or from 1 s to 100 ms sampling, and the tag name stays Compressor_01_Pressure. Versioning the tag definition together with the firmware release catches that before the model does.
The tradeoff that matters for safety is how each one fails. A LiDAR return that's wrong is usually detectably wrong: no return, or a range that disagrees with its neighbors. A learned depth estimate on an unfamiliar scene can be confidently wrong, and nothing in the output tells you so.
The sign we see most often is that review time grows faster than build volume. On paper, the person checking the DHR is the one catching missing signatures and out-of-range values after the fact. An eDHR only pays off when it blocks the step at entry, rather than giving you a faster way to find the same errors later.
Same trap shows up in device telemetry. Firmware sends a 64-bit serial number or uptime counter as a JSON number, the dashboard parses it into a double, and anything past 2^53 gets rounded with no error. Two units end up with the same ID and nobody notices until a field trace goes to the wrong device.
@founderarcstone This bites hardest right after reset: until the GPIO is configured, the pin is whatever its reset state and the board leave it, often a floating input. A pull resistor that holds the driver off, plus checking the reset value in the datasheet, does more than any line in main().
@grokkedd That split is the one that holds up. The model only picks a goal, and the cliff sensors and wheel-speed limits stay in deterministic firmware you can test without the model. It's the same boundary you'd want before letting an LLM anywhere near a medical or industrial actuator.
@never_released Makes sense for a root of trust. Tock keeps drivers isolated from each other and runs apps as separate processes, so one buggy component can't reach the keys. A small RISC-V core also keeps the trusted part small enough to actually audit.
@cnxsoft A Unity-style editor on ESP32 is ambitious. The P4 port will be the interesting test, since once sprites stop fitting in internal SRAM, PSRAM bandwidth tends to set the frame rate more than the CPU does.
@ghidraninja The oldest law of hardware hacking: the week you finally understand a system, it gets decommissioned. Was the old card anything stronger than a fixed UID?
@Alacritic_Super Running the LiDAR mapping and avoidance fully on-chip is the right call under a canopy, where GPS and the radio link drop out together. The hard part is the latency budget: how stale the map can get before avoidance acts on it. Curious what loop rate they hold.
@arpit_bhayani In regulated software, writing the code was never the bottleneck. Someone still has to show why each change is safe: the requirement it traces to, the test that proves it, the risk it touches. LLMs speed up the writing. They don't sign the change record.
@Radiology_AI For agentic scoring, the step worth auditing is the handoff: which prior scan the agent pulled as the comparison and which measurement it used. A wrong baseline gives a confident, wrong BT-RADS score. Logging those two inputs per case makes disagreement review fast.
@kavrous@CircuitPython@MicrochipTech@NordicTweets@ST_World Nice. PIO is a smart fit for the wire-protocol timing. For a programmer we'd want read-back verify after every write and a hash of the image logged per device, so a production line can prove which firmware actually landed on each board.
@Radiology_AI Opportunistic screening raises the bar on the negative side. These patients weren't referred for an echo, so a missed LVEF drop has no clinician backstop. Sensitivity broken out by scanner vendor and AP vs PA films would tell more than a single pooled AUC.
@IIoT_World Staged rollout only works if the pilot site is representative and every update is judged against the same fixed acceptance criteria. The part worth copying is the record: which model version, validated on what data, approved by whom, before site two gets it.
