Our front page today: time Boris and our Mayor actually said transport is safe... gridlock has begun. We cannot have a car led recovery. HUGE efforts by TFL to make underground and buses as safe as possible as long as we do our part and wear masks, etc. Stagger our journeys.
@emilysheffield @MatthewdAncona Get the commuters back for their free newspaper advertising.
@emilysheffield You're not disinterested in this though. Your business model relies on commuters. You should be honest about that
@emilysheffield The roads aren’t jammed though are they? Traffic is much lighter than normal, and the pic you have is a road with works going on. The tube is safe but only with masks and social distancing. Why take the risk when you can just work from home just as effectively instead?
@emilysheffield As long as the buses, trains & tubes are clean & disinfected social distancing is not necessary on public transport. TfL needs to end social distancing.
@emilysheffield @standardnews How about a huge drive to make TFL more affordable & a car less 'recovery' more viable. Where's the incentives for electric bikes, where's the staggered opening hours. Your front page reads like a memo from the Gov't in lieu of further knighthoods! Start representing Londoners!
@emilysheffield @MatthewdAncona Stagger journeys. How do you stagger a 10 hour day and a 2 hour commute outside of rush hour? 10am departure and 10pm return? No thanks. It’s peak rush hour for a reason. More productive at home.
@emilysheffield @EveningStandard Until there’s evidence of mask enforcement on public transport you’d be mad to use it. Plenty of people on buses not wearing masks and bus drivers aren’t challenging them.
@emilysheffield @EveningStandard It’s not tho, the city as was is no longer. Covid has delivered a workplace revolution as it’s byproduct.
@emilysheffield @MatthewdAncona The only reason for it being relatively safe at present is that social distancing is usually possible. A rush hour tube? How soon before the infection rate would soar?
