@MichaelDell @DellFdn gifts investing in America's children is fantastic. They'll never see this, but it swayed us to move a bunch of 2027 compute hardware orders over to our Dell reps.

@brockpierson Command & Conquer / Red Alert with a side of Duke Nukem 3D. Lots of classics from that era but for original formative solo time sunk, definitely those 3.

@DevRico003 @MikeBradleyAI @loktar00 Just two. Borrowed a friend's to test running 3x (max without RoCE/IB switch). Gives a bit more context window, but overall hasn't felt worth it for my use-case/needs.

I agree re: the 'new' price of the sparks, but it's not 1:1. 170HX being Ampere means definitely not equal on quant/models. Also completely overlooking the noise, heat, and buying second-hand (also modded) old crypto mining GPUs. Having sparks sitting under my router pulling 50-250W and virtually no-noise is worth something... That being said, it's fun as fuck to build a system and homelab and I would highly recommend it for the experience/knowledge alone. Just make sure it's clear that you're comparing Ampere to Blackwell and it's definitely not a 1-to-1 experience.

@1x3e2 @MikeBradleyAI @loktar00 Microcenter's stock of sparks was a few hundred iirc, it's not too hard to believe a few hundred people bought 2+ units per trip. I personally saw 2 people ahead of me in line getting rejected because they had already bought over 3 (MC checking names/historical purchases).

@jimsgarage_ Feeling similar (especially given hardware it can run on), though GLM-5.3-Flash and @MiaAI_lab's recipes has allowed me to move a ton of work over to LLMs and be very satisfied. Really making it functional at home for me, finally.
