We have evolved to be more consumed by the destructive opinions of critics than compelled by the eccentricities of companions.

we have come to inhabit the fringes, to find comfort in the farthermost; where nuance exists not, where the other is vilified. and where the Beloved cannot be heard.

Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault. Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. - Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

I wanted to entitle my paper on sexual ethics in the Early Church, “Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby” but I didn’t think my professor would think it was funny. Boring.

@racheljwelcher I chose the first but I’d amend it to say that it wasn’t a “sin” per se, but definitely seen as a weakness of faith- “what reason do you have to ever be sad because you’ve already received everything you could need in Jesus” type thing.

You know what else Elon Musk could have bought with that cash? Logos Bible software’s mid-level package.

@KaitlynSchiess The best is when you have your brilliant idea and then share with a prof for him/her to say “oh yes you should read these books written on that idea” and then you have to decide if you’re brilliant among the elite or if your idea was just average. 😂 I usually opt for the former.

there is no good nor bad christian; there is only the Beloved: who has fulfilled all things, liberated all things, loved all things, within whom we are saturated in Hope.

Embarrassingly, after having almost fully completed two theology degrees, I learned in my GRE exam prep that “prodigal” doesn’t mean “runaway from home.”

@glenscrivener This happened to my mom too, the email she received just said it was “inappropriate” content and lost her FB for 30 days. Too bad!

@julianygonzalez When I lived in Spain I did all my language learning in bars/cafes and I met some of my closest friends in them. Such a great place to just be.

I just got a tax bill for the second year in a row, and believe me when I say, I’ll be firing off some writing on the suppression of the working class. Right riled up.

Pilot (to my 5-year-old daughter a few days ago): Do you know you could be a flight attendant when you grow up? 5: I could also own the plane.

@MarlenaGraves The revelation of Jesus has always come to me through the movement of others and of the world around me. I know that I’ve changed from his influence, and have seen so many others changed as well. That he was who he said he was seems the only conclusion I can reach.
