Behind the photograph, a faded newspaper clipping revealed a disappearance dated October 17, 1976. The missing person's name matched the signature on every letter, while the final paragraph mentioned a body that had never been found.
Curiosity eventually defeated fear. One letter was opened beneath the dim light of a desk lamp, revealing a photograph of the bookstore taken fifty years earlier. Standing in front of the entrance was a familiar face, untouched by time.
Every evening, the old bookstore received a letter addressed to nobody. The envelopes smelled of rain, the ink was always blue, and every message began with the same impossible sentence: 'I remember the day you died.'
