very simple explanation as to why this will continue to happen & why this will obviously proliferate to movies too. capitalism esp when paired w/ very sophisticated tech like feeds + ai optimizes for elimination of friction at all costs. tiktok/reels have almost entirely eliminated three primary forms of friction: 1) discovery friction, you literally don't have to decide what to watch 2) time friction where gratification arrives in seconds 3) relevance friction. this is the most critical. since the pool of content is much larger & the algorithm on top is much more sophisticated it is continuously more adapted to your current emotional state, prefs, & behavior like nothing else. netflix cannot remotely pull any of this off even if they have a really great recommendation system. & more specifically the creators on these platforms have gotten much better (the production values of creator content is through the roof & it often feels very professional, just look at some of the pods on here for example). also there is a huge clipping phenomenon that is leveraged by creators for both commentary & showcasing what's actually worth watching in both streams (clavicular) & regular tv shows too. e.g. i watch almost all sports highlights through this creator on tiktok (his name is gavin something). he is awesome. most ppl used to reach for netflix when they door dashed, now it's much much easier to just open tiktok/reels.
People are losing the attention span to even watch 30 minute TV shows as short form video eats the world.
crypto's real world is likely to continue to concentrate in frontier markets like those in Africa. I think USD stablecoins are just the beginning of this wave. (p.s. RIP a16z crypto, hello a16z frontier)
@mrstephendeng Definitely! x.com/fhalihash/stat…
Most people, even engineers, still think stablecoins are a crypto trading thing. In a lot of emerging markets they’re how a business gets dollars to pay a supplier when the banks can’t provide them. In the US it’s a convenience. There it’s a need. Still very early.
Kate Berlant says getting off her phone made her feel intimate with her own life again. “I was doing days with no phone, and suddenly it’s 1904 and I’m a novelist.” She says going without scrolling brought back forgotten memories. “When you go off your phone, you start having childhood memories. I’m driving, and suddenly I’m back in the kitchen, I’m 10 years old, and my father comes in. It’s unbelievable. My brain is like, ‘Thank you.’ It’s opening up and flooding me with images.” She says constant scrolling makes you lose touch with yourself. “You just start to think again. You become more intimate with your life. We can talk about the horror machine of this, but on a personal, psychological level, you’ve lost all intimacy with yourself. That’s the crisis.” “Once you get a little bit of that intimacy back, you’re like, ‘Alright, now this is really medicinal.’”
If a Somali commits a crime in Minnesota he’s Somali but if he saves 20 kids on a runaway school bus he’s a Minnesota Man
A Minnesota man is opening up after he saved nearly 20 children when their school bus driver suffered a medical emergency. Read more: abcnews.link/t1I488m
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 Can’t agree with this enough.
Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would
@abassoladosu On the same path - keep it pushing!
@andyyy If you’re in crypto -pivot more into crypto
@mttjon Good luck! Would love to hear more about founder experiences/stories while building in the space
imho we should start calling USD stablecoins what they are to most of the world: digital dollars. "Stablecoin" sounds like crypto. "Digital dollar" sounds like what a business in a dollar-scarce market actually needs.
@galileowilson Love to see this type of hiring. We need more of it!
@BusinessWithHas @defyneric Ya gotta keep up with trends and know how to manipulate the algorithm for lack of better words.
Too many founders would rather stay invisible forever than ever risk making a mistake in public.

@LumeBTC @jacobfranek Lottery tickets the wrong word for it lol
@lukaivicev , this is definitely needed. There’s too much of the high top level stuff.
@defyneric What’s your advice on becoming that head of content guy? What goes into it behind the scenes?
