@oaroanoke Which did you start with?

@ValnarDragoness @blacksmoke1033 Mostly, just don't sleep next to it and don't disassemble a radium clock in case the paint has crumbled. If you want to collect this stuff definitely buy a Geiger counter and learn about how radiation doses work and the different types of radiation.

@KarenNewcombe @ValnarDragoness @blacksmoke1033 The uranium glass on the other hand only has a trace amount of uranium (which also puts off less radiation than radium), and since it's made of glass won't flake or crumble. If you are collecting this stuff definitely buy a Geiger counter and check how spicy it is though.

@KarenNewcombe @ValnarDragoness @blacksmoke1033 Yes they are mostly safe, but radium paint is actually more dangerous than glass, it can flake off and crumble with age and then be inhaled. Your skin is pretty good at blocking some radiation, but your mucus membranes are not. Store them on a shelf in a room you don't sleep in.

@tomorgel @blacksmoke1033 Florescence can come from lots of places, but as a glaze or in glass it was really only common based around uranium until more recently. Florescent pigment can either on its own "glow" with a blacklight or be added to other pigment for a "day-glow" brightening effect (like toys).

@blacksmoke1033 @waIharts My roommate is a nuclear engineering PhD student, so I can definitely ask for their thoughts if you have any other safety concerns!

@blacksmoke1033 @waIharts Also don't put it on your bedside table and sleep right next to it. Radiation doses have to do with the strength of the radiation, type of radiation, distance from it, and time exposed, so keep something really spicy like an early radium clock up on a bookshelf.

@jff024 @DrKnowItAll16 @hankgreen Just like you evolved to live with barely any pressure, the fish have evolved adaptations to live down there. The rapid change in pressure is also a problem, here is a tanker car with a vacuum inside being crushed by just the weight of the atmosphere youtu.be/0N17tEW_WEU

@ImCuckerTarlson @NerdyAndQuirky This has been my experience with an ipad I got to take notes on. Some parts of it are fantastic, but there are so many things that seem intentionally limited that it gets really frustrating. Stupid stuff like arranging apps on the home screen and not being able to format SD cards

@Alpha_C3ph @BowlReeces @Ecothedragon37 @GoodReddit I get gallon jugs of bottled water and refill my nalgene with them. I'm saving up to get one of those refillable water dispensers they have in offices though, most grocery stores have a spot to refill them!

@olivierjanss @whatchya1 @CoeurTheone @realstewpeters @StevijoPayne So yes I would rather this have been produced by a nationalized industry (run by government) that is working at behest and in the interest of the general population of the country and not just to increase earnings for shareholders.

@olivierjanss @whatchya1 @CoeurTheone @realstewpeters @StevijoPayne And further, if you just look at it as a cost of business, $25000 in damages (what the rail company paid the town) is a super cheap cost for the savings of not upgrading brakes and hiring more workers on a trains, despite this being an objectively bad thing to have happened
