🎙️ Here's Ep. 185 of @frontendfirstfm! Had fun chatting about building an in-browser authoring tool with CodeMirror + refactoring a Tailwind side project to Radix Themes. Hope you enjoy – and if you'll be at @ReactMiamiConf come say hi! (0:00) Intro (4:01) Building an…
🎙️ Ep. 184 of @frontendfirstfm is up! "Throw is about control flow – not error handling" We share our take on how JS devs should think about `throw`, and why we think the term "error handling" is unhelpful. We also talk a bit about static + dynamic sites. Enjoy! (0:00) Intro…
🎙️ Ep. 183 of @frontendfirstfm is live! "The Philosophy of Next.js" We talked about the motivations behind several of the design decisions in Next.js, including caching, why layouts don't have access to the URL, and why the router doesn't expose navigation events. Enjoy!…
🎙️ Ep. 182 of @frontendfirstfm is up! "Beyond Data Fetching with RSCs" We talk about refactoring an MDX blog post to a React Server Component, and the surprising realization that RSCs can replace tons of build-time tools from MDX to Webpack loaders. (0:00) Intro (5:05) The…
Ep. 181 of @frontendfirstfm is live! "Blog Post Club: React Labs – What We’ve Been Working On" (0:00) Intro (5:26) Opening (6:18) React Compiler (27:27) Actions (51:44) Asset loading (1:13:06) Next Major Version of React (1:15:42) Activity
🎙️ Ep. 180 of @frontendfirstfm is up! We discuss why RSC makes it tricky to build a filter panel that updates instantly but still tracks the URL's search params, how to think more intuitively about React Transitions, and why useOptimistic is a perfect fit for the panel. (0:00)…
🎙️ Ep. 179 of @frontendfirstfm is live! "React Deep Dive: useOptimistic" (0:00) Intro (2:18) Problem: RSCs require a server roundtrip before the UI can be updated (10:13) Solution: useOptimistic() lets you merge ephemeral client-side state with server-side data so you can…
🎙️ Back on the mics with E177 of @frontendfirstfm! (0:00) Intro (0:49) Advanced Radix UI + ceilingless libraries (21:03) Read and discuss: "RSC is React Server + Component"
Got some weekend Remix listening for ya! Ryan and I discuss the architecture of a Remix app in this week's @frontendfirstfm. Remix does a great job surfacing the core strengths of HTTP with four simple APIs – Links, Forms, Actions, and Loaders – while still giving us a seamless…
Loved learning more about Server Actions from Ryan's RSC project in this week's @frontendfirstfm! Just like Client Components become references on the server, Server Actions become references on the client – enabling a single paradigm for writing code that spans the network.…
I loved hearing about Ryan's hobby RSC implementation in this week's @frontendfirstfm. Diving into the details is a great way to understand how any tool works + helps clarify how it's intended to be used. Hope you enjoy as much as I did! youtu.be/lkOU0C4ezwM?si…
On this week's @frontendfirstfm we talk about the Next.js client-side router cache, and whether clicking a link to a URL (after some backend data has changed) vs. hitting refresh on that same URL should render the same page. Enjoy! youtu.be/FHx1mpgx5nM
On today's @frontendfirstfm I chat with @timneutkens about how the Next.js App Router is using RSC, React's new cache API, and Server Actions to make our server-side code as fun and composable as the React we all know and love. Enjoy! youtu.be/1NLh-pSpbeA
Going to chat with @timneutkens on Frontend First about RSC soon – what questions do you have for him?
In this week's @frontendfirstfm we talk about how TypeScript helped us understand what's going on when you pass props from RSC to Client Components, and how to correctly type client props when dealing with rich objects from the server. youtu.be/_9AT8nVWoAI
In this week's @frontendfirstfm we talk about the difference between "server-side rendering" and what it means to "render Server Components", as well as what benefits the RSC architecture would bring even if it were introduced in a world without SSR. youtu.be/fFIHZLiFYzE
In this week's @frontendfirstfm Ryan talks about how Server Actions and useFormStatus let you build reusable pending UI for any form in your Next.js projects! youtu.be/MTKUdRYzOY8
In this week's @frontendfirstfm I share how I debugged a hydration mismatch due to a time zone difference between server and client. tldr: TZ=UTC is your friend! youtu.be/VAjyAfnhIPU
In this week's @frontendfirstfm I share how I debugged a hydration mismatch that stemmed from time zone differences between the server and the client. tldr: the TZ=UTC environment variable is your friend! youtu.be/VAjyAfnhIPU
Today's @frontendfirstfm discusses using MJML to build and send transactional emails with React, using Framer Motion to get a radial gradient to follow the mouse cursor, and the differences between React State, refs, Motion Values, and external stores. youtube.com/watch?v=8FUu0h…

@dan_abramov2 I think what helped it click for me was a combination of your blog post and the two podcast episodes on @frontendfirstfm. @JoshWComeau's was also really good. I might put together a meta blog post that shares other resources and explains why they're useful
@mattpocockuk same here! you should check out @frontendfirstfm's episodes about implementing RSC, in case you haven't yet
@frontendfirstfm long time, first time here. The SQL Injection Slide was really good. Enjoyed it to the end, especially the walkthrough of all the formerly famous frameworks. Thank you!
Also drove from nyc to VA...first time driving in 2 years lol! The rental car they gave me? A dodge charger!! Took the time to catch up on the @frontendfirstfm podcast around react server components. Highly recommend it !
Took the long weekend to do head home for our family reunion, walk the campus of my university, see as many friends as I could, and enjoy some wonderful seafood from the DC-Maryland area ! It's always fun to see where the growth you have had by reflecting on old times !
Big shout-out to @samselikoff and @ryantotweets from @_buildui - their discussions on @frontendfirstfm have helped a great deal in understanding this new paradigm. In particular, Episode 169 "SSR vs Server Components" is the MVP here. Give it a listen: youtube.com/watch?v=fFIHZL…
@samselikoff @frontendfirstfm A lot to learn from the podcast, shiii this was a good video
The podcast by @frontendfirstfm has become a must-listen for the frontend team here at Clerk They're great at keeping up with the ecosystem, and explaining why small-sounding changes can have profound impacts on DX. Give it a listen!

@samselikoff @frontendfirstfm Just listened to this, loved the analysis and the added color :) going to link this up on the post 💪
Our first crossover episode! We had @frontendfirstfm's @samselikoff and @ryantotweets on and geekd out on development philosophy and other fun stuff. Check it out 👇🏽 open.spotify.com/episode/4PWaTd…
Very stoked to hear Sam and Ryan talking about Stork by @jameslittle230 on the latest episode of @frontendfirstfm. Stork is a #blazinglyfast client-only search that feels like it could be a new paradigm for docs sites and blogs once it gains some more traction
What I truly love about the @frontendfirstfm podcast is that they share actual frictions about working with #React. It seems that so much talk about React these days is how it will solve all your problems! So refreshing to see beyond the rose-colored goggles to the real world.
@amacarthur @frontendfirstfm It's one my faves. I hope you enjoy it.
@frontendfirstfm @frontendfirst .env is another that gives me strong "things I didn't know I needed" vibes Crazy someone just came up with that and now it's practically ubiquitous
Sooooo true, one of my favourite people to follow, as well as @frontendfirstfm
Most underrated frontend development channel on YouTube. @samselikoff focuses on stuff that’s a lot more interesting and real-world than the beginner-focused content you usually find, and the teaching style and production quality is best-in-class 💯 youtube.com/c/SamSelikoff
podcasts that I really enjoy listening to: - @frontendfirstfm - @losfullstackers - @layoutfm Any recommendation?
