what do non ntv ppl mean when they say “lets have a powwow”
@frybreadwhore I think they mean meeting. There is NO DANCING. No drumming. No good snacks, usually. A mockery!
@frybreadwhore Honestly think a lot of people don't know/don't put together what it rly means. So bizarre seeing these words and names repurposed to just be hollowed out. Watching whiteness enact culture dissolving in real time is always unnerving. The void of whiteness is cold to live in tbh
@frybreadwhore Depends on where you work in restaurants it Usually it means your about to have a meeting at work, and usually to fuss you because they think you aren’t working hard enough.
@frybreadwhore I always say, “not how a powwow works” when they call a meeting that way.
@frybreadwhore I’ve never used it myself, but I’ve had some 💩 managers who thought it was a good idea & it normally was some degrading reference to a “meeting” in which they were going to make you feel 3” tall. Tried to never fail to inform them they were racists.
@frybreadwhore to non native people a powwow is the equivalent to a football huddle. at least in my opinion. it’s hilarious honestly how far off they are
@frybreadwhore Usually a meeting, or small gathering. Sometimes just a chat. I just informed my ASL teacher to not use it, and she’s super respectful of always listening of the Deaf community (she’s hearing) so I was glad that she was responsive to being respectful of native culture as well.
@frybreadwhore The non natives I've been around mean it as let's go have a fun/rowdy gathering or important meeting
@frybreadwhore My FFA advisor would say that when we were having a final run down meeting before competitions and conferences. It was the “get your shit together” meeting
