For those who cannot imagine where the savings might be when/if the Vancouver Park Board is folded under city services. Here’s my draft list of savings areas and at least 50 million dollars in value or about a 5 % tax savings for Vancouverites. Roads Comms Professional non union staff Politicians Office space Parking management Building lease maintenance Legal department Rfp processing Etc.
@george_affleck The effort wouldnt look as bad if you weren’t trumpeting it as a win over unionized employees.
@george_affleck Let’s see the breakdown, George: how much do you estimate will be saved under each category (and how)? Do you seriously think throwing up a list like this and saying it’s worth $50 million dollars impresses anyone?
@george_affleck The merits aren’t the issue here George, it’s the undemocratic manner in which Ken Sim and his mayor’s office have gone about trying to push this change across. Educate people and hold a referendum. This is how a democracy should operate.
@george_affleck Is this the same Mayor Sim pre-elected promised to cut $300 million from COV budget without slashing services? Did not, but increased my property taxes 11%. Is Langara safe under Sim? After VPL this looks like a power grab. No thanks, fooled by Sim before. Keep the Parks Board.
@george_affleck By this logic we could fold city council and all its support people into the parks board instead and save even more money.
@george_affleck You’re assuming that the equivalent city department has the capacity to take on all the extra work, without adding any additional staff. That’s a massive assumption
