Flame of the forest,Butea monosperma. In Sanskrit, the flower is extensively used as a symbol for the arrival of spring and the colour of love. The "Gita Govinda" compares these blossoms to the red nails of Kamadeva or Cupid, with which the latter wounds the hearts of lovers

As if to compete with the vibrant coloured birds, the wildflowers of Colombia leave no stone unturned in catching your eye. Tibouchina grossa. Also called "red princess flower" or "carmine princess flower" native to Colombia and Ecuador. Collared inca and Buff tailed coronet.

#birdsofcolombia continued. This bird is a stunner ! The Toucan Barbet. cloud forest bird of northwestern Ecuador and western Colombia. Lots of colors, gray throat, red breast and belly, black cap, thick white stripe behind eye, and stout, yellow bill tipped with black.

A bird with its beak longer than its body! The sword-billed hummingbird (Ensifera ensifera).only bird to have a beak longer than the rest of it, excluding the tail. It uses its bill to drink nectar from long flowers and has coevolved with Passiflora flowers. #BirdsOfTwitter
