Dr: Almost no one knows for sure why they got cancer. Me: I do. Dr: 🫤 Me: The same principle that guides all life! If something can make more of itself there will be more of it. It’s evolution by natural selection, but for individual cells rather than the organism. Dr:
Seriously, my oncologist is amazing and he knows so much and clearly takes a huge amount of time for his patients and I desperately hope he likes me.
@hankgreen This is true however I do think other than historical family reasons that how we live creates an environment whereby cancer can become more prevalent dont you think? I don’t think it’s a simple as above but in essence that is what it’s doing.
@hankgreen But where does it COME FROM like where does the original cancer cell come from that then makes more of itself
@hankgreen Not sure if “a book about cancer” is what your mental health needs right now but The Cheating Cell by Athena Aktipis is all about this!
@hankgreen Really, it's a perfectly understandable stance for cancer to take and we'd all do the same in it's position. Extremely empathetic to it's cause, now on with the chemo.
@hankgreen People that know what’s happening/can ask the right questions make the most “troublesome” patients.
