Day 25 – Judgment #LentenSnapshots2023 A friend of mine was telling me about an older relative of his. “So judgy!” is what he said, shaking his head sadly. Dear Lord, help me not to judge! Lead me to be loving and forgiving. Please.
Day 24 – Enemies #LentenSnapshots2023 Our cat #MaryTheCat is fascinated by birds. (By that I mean she would very much like to eat them.) Dear God, I know I was once Your enemy. No more! Thank God!
Day 23 – Name #LentenSnapshots2023 When my third daughter was about to be born, my husband and I still hadn’t decided on a name. As soon as my husband held our newborn, he said, “Here’s Rachel!” Dear God, You know our names. You call us by name. Thank You.
Day 22 – Victory #LentenSnapshots2023 I was driving the church bus (years ago) when we had engine problems. I remember the Gospel song “Victory in Jesus” kept going through my head. Thank God, the bus made it back to let my passengers off, safe! Thank God, indeed!
Protection These days, I'm not sure who protects whom. But somewhere in the midst of it all, we both feel safe and have what we need. #theadventuresofjesse #LentenSnapshots2023 #securitypup #emotionalsupporthuman instagram.com/p/Cpy1grWuw7D/…
Day 21 – Protection #LentenSnapshots2023 Our cat #MaryTheCat certainly has a good life. She is warm, well cared for, and well fed. She’s able to sleep soundly, feeling well protected. Help me to feel that way too, God!
Day 20 – Overcome #lentensnapshots2023 I can’t help but think of the tracheotomy I had as a toddler. And the stroke I had in high school. Dear God, thank You for Your medical help and Divine encouragement, every step of the way.
Day 19 – Restore #LentenSnapshots2023 Restorative. That’s what spring is to me. When I see little green points coming up from the ground, I get happy! My heart feels restored.
Day 18 – Peacekeeper #LentenSnapshots2023 Peacekeeping? Isn’t this like Psalm 133, where brothers and sisters live in unity? But, I see factions, opposing sides, even families torn apart. Please, God, let this peacekeeping become reality.
Day 17 – Provide #LentenSnapshots2023 The word “provide:” I think of Matt 7:7. Keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking. Dear God, You said You will provide for me. Not the super fancy or shiny things, but always my daily bread. Thank You for Your provision for me.
Day 16 – Shepherd #LentenSnapshots2023 Psalm 23 is one of my go-to Scripture passages, whether comforting people at end-of-life or reassuring my congregation when they are walking through the valley of the shadow. Dear Lord, be a Shepherd to me, too. Please.
Day 15 – Meaning #LentenSnapshots2023 How can I, a chaplain, bring meaning to people’s lives? Sometimes, I have difficulty finding meaning in my own life. God, I need to trust that You go with me as I visit.
Perspective What do you see from this angle? What does this vantage point give you? #LentenSnapshots2023 #perspective #lifewithluther instagram.com/p/Cpg8OmMsLQu/…
Day 14 – Perspective #LentenSnapshots2023 What would it be like to be a flower, and to see the world as they see? Help me to be open, be curious, and be willing to consider another point of view. Help me, Lord. Please.
Day 13 – Presence #LentenSnapshots2023 I try to provide “ministry of presence” to my patients and their families, as a hospice chaplain. But Lord, who provides ministry of presence to me? Help me to seek out friendly places and gentle persons to do that for me. Please.
Enough If Luther has taught me anything, it's that "enough" doesn't require as much as I'd like to think it does. #LentenSnapshots2023 #enough #lifewithluther instagram.com/p/CpWolmGO66k/…
