🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 KUNG FU PANDA 4 Directed by : Mike Mitchell, Stephanie Stine Was this 4th installment necessary? I don't think so. It's a well made family film, but there's nothing we haven't already seen in the previous films. If you're not a fan of those, pass. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 IMMACULATE Directed by : Michael Mohan Starring : Sydney Sweeney Sydney's performance is great, and the old Italian convent's interiors set the atmosphere perfectly. The plot is not very orginal though, as it unfolds in a too manichean way at the end. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 GHOSTBUSTERS : FROZEN EMPIRE Directed by : Gil Kenan Starring : Paul Rudd Alright is pretty much the best rating that can be given to this sequel. Old cast and references are not enough to make it entertaining. Everything feels like an inferior copy. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 DUNE : PART TWO Directed by : Denis Villeneuve Starring : Timothée Chalamet This sequel shouldn't disappoint those who liked part 1. The cinematography is beautiful, the soundtrack is convenient, and the action scenes are spectacular. Part 3 incoming. 8/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 ONE LIFE Directed by : James Hawes Starring : Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Flynn Focused on facts, this film is very different from The Schindler's List on a similar theme. Good acting, some moving moments, but it could've been a documentary just as well. 7/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 FERRARI Directed by : Michael Mann Starring : Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz This is more a biopic about Enzo Ferrari than a racing film. As such, it doesn't fully convince. The cinematography is dark and flat, feeling like a TV series rather than cinema. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 POOR THINGS Directed by : Yorgos Lanthimos Starring : Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Mark Ruffalo A unique film on the Frankenstein creature theme, with beautiful dystopian sets, and a great performance from Emma Stone. Weird, funny and moving all at once. 8/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 WONKA Directed by : Paul King Starring : Timothée Chalamet This origin story of Willy Wonka is what Disney used to be good at : an old fashioned tale for the whole family, with heart and soul, smile and sadness. The musical parts are lovely. Sweet! 7/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 GODZILLA MINUS ONE Directed by : Takashi Yamazaki Set just after WW2, the plot of this Japanese film focuses heavily on the human characters. The visual effects are impressive despite a reported budget of about 20x less than big Hollywood productions. 8/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON Directed by : Martin Scorsese Starring : Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone This (too long?) film takes its time to tell a heartbreaking story. From the directing to the acting, everything is brilliant anyway. 8/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 DOGMAN Directed by : Luc Besson Starring : Caleb Landry Jones Besson is back to what he does best : characters broken by life. Of course the film doesn't avoid Besson's usual flaws (lack of subtlety, manicheism), but Caleb's acting alone is excellent. 7/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 THE HUNGER GAMES : THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES Directed by : Francis Lawrence Starring : Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler As an origin story for Coriolanus Snow, you will like this film if you liked the main ones. Good cast. Even the songs are nice. 7/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 SAW X Directed by : Kevin Greutert Starring : Tobin Bell Back to the roots with a story occurring between Saw 1 & 2. After an unexpectedly long focus on Kramer's character, the usual torture porn begins. Inconsistencies aside, it's rather efficient. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 THE KILLER Directed by : David Fincher Starring : Michael Fassbender This film should've stayed on Netflix. It's well directed and acted, but coming from David Fincher, I expected more than a generic film with a simple plot where nothing stands out. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 SOUND OF FREEDOM Directed by : Alejandro Monteverde Starring : Jim Caviezel International child trafficking needed awareness. I'm not sure a stereotypical action movie was the best way to cover that serious topic as it lacks nuance and consistency. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 THE CREATOR Directed by : Gareth Edwards Starring : John David Washington This sci-fi film proves that spectacular CGI can be achieved with a $80M budget. More about love and humanity than AI, and with many classic inspirations, the film convinces. 7/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 A HAUNTING IN VENICE Directed by : Kenneth Branagh Starring : Kenneth Branagh In this 3rd episode, the atmosphere is more mysterious as the protagonists are stuck with a psychic inside a dark Venetian palace. Nice cinematography, yet conventional. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 THE EQUALIZER 3 Directed by : Antoine Fuqua Starring : Denzel Washington This film is decent but closes the trilogy in a very conventional and not completely satisfying way. Denzel is old now, and it shows, yet his natural charisma is still intact. 6/10
🎬 #WeeklyCinema 🎥 GRAN TURISMO Directed by : Neill Blomkamp Starring : David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a gamer who became a racer in real life thanks to the GT Academy, Gran Turismo is a rather solid movie. 6/10
