If publishing and @nielsen worked together to fix this lack of an illustrator sales data column, illustrators’ sales reputations could provide a helpful bridge between big-budget celebrity publicity campaigns and books by lesser-known and debut writers. #PicturesMeanBusiness

You know how so many media interviews lead with the term ‘bestselling author’? Well, they can’t do this for illustrators because the journalists *literally don’t have this information*. Without data, there is no such thing as a ‘bestselling illustrator’. #PicturesMeanBusiness
Not sure how Andersen managed to forget to name author & illustrator, but it’s @RooneyRachel and @zehrahicks #creditthecreators #picturesmeanbusiness

Ppl who draw comics being credited as the author of their work (alongside the writer): make sure your publisher fills in the metadata for Nielsen correctly. That's all it takes for news articles, blogs, amazon and everyone else to get your #artcredit right. #picturesmeanbusiness
With @theaoi support, I sent my first-ever copyright infringement notice this week for a 32-page picture book republished without my knowledge. Thank you for being so helpful. #notahobby #picturesmeanbusiness
Proud to see my buddy @r1k1n get a shoutout on the actual TV! And more generally very happy to see illustrators being given the credit they deserve (nice one, @greg_jenner!). #PicturesMeanBusiness

Authors - can we please try and include the illustrator in your first post when promoting a book - especially when you’re using the artwork to promote it! Seeing a new fad where the illustrator is tagged in a follow up post 😕🤷♂️ #picturesmeanbusiness
Here's the #picturesmeanbusiness website so you can see what this is, what is being done, how people can get involved, and how a properly holistic solution involving publishers is the way forward. picturesmeanbusiness.com
In a time when artists are still not being credited for their work on books (including comics), re-upping #picturesmeanbusiness, a focused campaign which aims to help everyone in publishing get their due from their work, and for the value of artists to be recognised.
@Booktrust Back from the school run! Big shoutout to my illustrator partners because #PicturesMeanBusiness: @creative_dy, @annabeltempest, @r1k1n, @ruchimhasane, @jasonlyon_, Jojo Clinch, Adam Hayes, Juliana Eigner, and a few more I can't wait to introduce you to! 🎨📚
Touching on #picturesmeanbusiness so important! Credit where credit is due! See picturesmeanbusiness.com @jabberworks @DerekBrazell @theaoi
@jabberworks I've just been surprised by this *reverse* #PicturesMeanBusiness in the wild — crediting the illustrator only, but not the author! (There is one; see the cover thumbnail.) lovereading4kids.co.uk/book/978180078… Still not good, obviously. But at least the mistake fell t'other way for a change!
Really excited for #illustrationhuntly Come on up to Aberdeenshire this August and share the love of illustration and illustrators. Up here we really know that #picturesmeanbusiness illustrationhuntly.com/whats-on
This is a stunning piece of work by #ClémentLefèvre adapted by #MaxeLHermenier. Page after page of beautiful illustrations. Would have loved to see their biographies at the end @WalkerBooksUK. #PicturesMeanBusiness
For accuracy, we made the name of the #illustrator of the picture book so small that it is illegible. 🤣 #PicturesMeanBusiness For more searing social commentary🤣 & even more hilarious toilet humour🧻, grab Worst Week Ever THURSDAY, out NOW in the UK thanks to @simonschusterUK
I don't understand why #PicturesMeanBusiness doesn't resonate more in the industry. Surely it's better for everyone (and *especially* publishers and booksellers!) if the illustrator is properly recognised from start to finish. It feels like a huge missed marketing opportunity!

My god if I could put this whole thread onto billboards I would. #PicturesMeanBusiness and as a library worker I see the impact of artwork on children's borrowing decisions every blinking day. I get furious when artists aren't credited. The knock-ons are HUGE.
