Maybe - hear me out - we are being led by knuckle-dragging incompetents who understand neither their own jobs nor our national interest. So very much is wrong with this. What kind of confusion drives a "diaspora minister," on the eve of President Biden's signing of billions of dollars in aid, and even as the American president sheds political capital for us because he doesn't actually want us to lose this war - and while most American Jews (theoretically the diaspora minister's portfolio) still, despite some shifting, mostly support this president - to declare he'd vote for the challenger? Even without any of that context, even if we didn't owe President Biden basic gratitude and respect, it's hard to overstate how stupid it is for an Israeli minister to declare who he'd vote for in someone else's election. We can criticize Biden as much as we want. I've criticized the administration repeatedly on Rafah. I think they've had moments of clarity and smart policy and moments of confusion that pushed Hamas away from the negotiating table and empowered Iran. I don't think Biden is above criticism. But when Israel is led by such incompetents, it's awfully harder to come to the Americans with complaints. When you've won the war, O great leaders of ours, we'll have patience for your complaints against our foreign allies, allies who've spent seven months shedding political capital for us even as you've done your utmost to make their support as difficult as possible for them. -- Diaspora minister says he’d ‘vote for Trump’ if able, Biden ‘under intense pressure’ timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry… via @timesofisrael
@havivrettiggur Bibi's hoping no one will notice that his "total victory" overpromise means that he's already LOST THE WAR against Hamas, not to mention everything else-- hostages, Israeli refugees, threats from the north/Iran, world opinion, etc. All he's got left is empty bluster.
@havivrettiggur Not at all clever, but we must admit that Biden and his team began this by inserting themselves into Israeli politics.
@havivrettiggur I heard him this morning on the radio and was like, don’t answer that, don’t answer that
Thank G-d the US and other allies know how to put country interests and bilateral relations above personal relations with individuals or a particular administration, because if we had to rely on the Israeli government’s personal relations with others right now, we would have no friends in the world. We are supported despite our government seemingly making every effort to ruin it all.
@havivrettiggur @BillKristol Peculiar strategy to say the least.
@havivrettiggur maybe they understand few things... And the reason why Israel is denied the needed victory.... the time of Israel dependence from USA has gone. The failure of multipolar institutions, working more as inquisition courts has gone as well, the progressive line shown their face.
@havivrettiggur I understand your point but if you're in charge of the dispora & you're seeing what Biden is allowing to happen to Jewish students, it's hard to not get emotional. I wish more Jewish voices can just say that 4 more yrs of Biden means Jews are no longer welcome in the US.
@havivrettiggur How much political capital has @JoeBiden shed while both-siding Israel/Hamas, and antisemitic protestors and Jewish victims of antisemitism on campus? And what does it say about the @DNC that even the both-siding is viewed by the antisemitic base as too much?
@havivrettiggur I am once again begging my fellow Jews— Israelis: Have opinions about Israeli politics! Americans: Have opinions about American politics! Thank you for your cooperation.
