Just a reminder that librarians have detailed/specific selection criteria for purchasing books for a school library to serve the needs of all kids in the community. One parent, or group of parents, do not get to decide for ALL parents which books ALL kids should have access to.
Kids learn about themselves & their world through books. Lived experiences... Accurate history... LGBTQIA+ stories... Acknowledging racism... Realities of the world... Characters/Creators from historically marginalized cultures & communities... Books... should not be banned.
@heisereads THANK YOU. Trying to explain that to some. My POs (w/attached lists including title, author, ISBN, etc) had to go to principal, then Board Office for signatures for approval b4 being sent. Orders are not placed in a vacuum.
@heisereads Just confirming, are you in the US?
@heisereads @sslibfriends Perfectly said! Now, to make the cruel grievance seekers understand…
@heisereads I just posted this. Irritates me so much when they think they know better than trained librarians what should be in a collection. x.com/memphisbelle11…
