I've always liked @calcom's visual style. Their new Platform page is an evolution of that, which is interesting to see. I recorded a 14 minute video review of the design of the page. youtube.com/watch?v=tUUYBj…
Love this pattern on @irsteve's website. A dotted line travels down from the top-left and top-right section titles to create a container around whatever's in that section. A subtle and visually interesting way to make sections clear, and to link contents to title.
This element in the hero section of the @mymoneyera website is a good example of "do a lot with a little". It's two pieces of text and two rectangles, but they all work together to create a visually interesting composition. The reversed text also communicates something new.
I wrote a list of beliefs about quality that I wish weren't true. These are all "unfortunate facts" I believe. I'd be happy if you proved any of them wrong, but I'd need strong evidence. anthonyhobday.com/blog/20240428.…

First time I've seen this scaling button effect done properly in the wild. Browsers rasterize text before scaling it, so it gets all blurry and fucked up. If you wanna do this effect, just scale the background, not the text.
@hobdaydesign It's not reasonable to expect it. However the people who are good at both are much more likely to be successful. Then the people who are good at sales/marketing. Then lastly the crafts people.
🔥 UX tip: Your “IconButton” component should support two distinct center alignments: • Centered within the entire button. • Centered within the space beside the icon. They're each useful in different circumstances:
In a well-designed process, the visuals are the *least* impactful problem-solving layer, because this layer is the most plastic. It is here that "ship and see" works best, because changes are cheap and quick.

trying to be original is tough– perhaps unattainable if you're strict about it– because there's always someone somewhere who's done it (or something like it) before. trying to be *fresh*, however, I think is worthwhile and attainable. old things can be fresh in a new context

@hobdaydesign Totally agree, there is immense value there. I think Scott Belsky talks about a team that has "it's arm's around the product" for that very reason — to ensure holistic quality. The Pixar braintrust also operates to achieve quality in a similar way, often to amazing effect.
