Why do students cheat? Why do they ask friends to write their papers? Why do they copy/paste from Wikipedia? Why do they use AI? Because the system is designed to make them care about grades over learning.
@ihaveabug And because young people will go though extreme effort to avoid work.
@ihaveabug @dowellml There are great students who want to learn, and there are those who only care about getting through with minimum effort, and many somewhere in between those groups. No creative approach to teaching or removing grades will change it.
@ihaveabug you forgot...how do I get through this worthless crap so that I can busy myself with my phone contacts on TikTok, etc or play the newest rpg, or talk to my true love, Brandi/Shamika/Troy/Dre...or...whatever distraction my personal technology instrument can provide
@ihaveabug How do we ask questions in ways that cheating won't benefit students?
@ihaveabug No. Well, it depends. The main reason is they’re human — like water, they will always take the path of least resistance.
@ihaveabug I have tried to tell my students this for years, but the system of schooling and college admissions teaches them otherwise. So frustrating.
