This has become a pattern because this is exactly how potential candidates were knocked out prior to 2020 bar elections via amendments in 2018.
These amendments preserve existing inequalities and do not promote inclusion. They enhance barriers for eligibility as candidacy for these elections as a net result of which those who could have qualified to be candidates remain ineligible due to added technical barriers.
Amendments to Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act 1973 just months before the elections is not just an issue about the timing but about the substance of the amendments itself which are anti representation of young lawyers, female lawyers and other diverse persons.
Eligibility requirements to stand as candidates for bar elections are successively being enhanced to gatekeep access and preserve existing inequalities.
