@GMJacobAagaard @killer_chess Nice! It should be solvable - I guessed the right move but for the wrong reasons so no credit for me

I've been listening to hours of the five-day long public hearing for a supportive housing site in the District of North Vancouver. Here's the transcript of one of the speakers, presented in its entirety.

@gyardley @GMJacobAagaard @QualityChess Whoops I meant Ke6 and Bd5, without an idea to make progress for white seems like a dead end

@gyardley @GMJacobAagaard @QualityChess I think that’s an easy draw due to opposite colored bishops and no way to create a second passed pawn, eg Kf7,Be6 and white has nothing to even try.

@GMJacobAagaard Missed your poll, but a common scenario (for me and observing others) is: excess time use which leads to a tactical mistake which is the concrete reason for a loss. But the true cause is likely lack of confidence in opening and/or middlegame play.

@GMJacobAagaard Rh3 looks flexible for both attack and defence, and specifically Bxe5 Qxe5 Nf6 Rg3 white is too fast so it seems he keeps his c6 pawn

There can be no doubt the Proximal Origin authors consciously and inappropriately downplayed the #COVID19 research-related origin hypothesis and coordinated efforts manipulating media coverage. They also interacted like noxious frat boys. No longer private Slack excerpts below.

@GMJacobAagaard @davidllada @CLTchesscenter I’m not sure what the plan is after either move, but after Na4 Ng6-e4 looks like black’s knight will outperform white’s significantly. After Nxd7 maybe white can eventually pressure a5?

People are still donating to Gawain and his two infant children. This is a good thing. Chess people, I am proud of you. (If you have not gotten around to donate yet, this is your chance!) gofundme.com/f/support-the-…

@GMJacobAagaard Right defending f7 with tempo. So Kh1 should be considered, h6 Nxe5 is my line without Rf8 tempo so Nc6 is now possible, and instead Rc8 maybe Nxg5 is now fast enough for white eg Rc8 Nxg5 Rxc5 Qh5 Rxc4 Qh7+ Kg8 Ne6+ etc

@olimpiuurcan Er there is another factor of 60 I forgot, but it only adds another 1.5 in magnitude so the argument still holds

@olimpiuurcan Seems to check out: universe is ~13.7 billion years old, or about 13.7e9 x 365 x 24 x 60 x 1e9 = 7.2e24 nano seconds old. Adding orders of magnitude: 80+24 = 104 which is much less than 120.

@chesscoachandra @DoctorScull Well I’ve been rightly schooled on this problem, but I think that actually supports the view that there is good value in practicing raw calculation.

@chesscoachandra @DoctorScull Given the number of replies confidently asserting Kc7 as the correct answer, I have to disagree. There is clearly value in practicing brute calculation and visualizing even two moves out!

@zenmadman @DoctorScull Ah whoops, interesting I blind spotted that. Anyway Qg7 is much more natural as it’s a normal restricting move and directly threatens mate.
