Sometimes I feel like I'm never going to be good enough. These days are so hard.
Almost a year and a half since I posted this, and it’s more true than ever. It’s an especially lonely feeling when things seem to be going well. Feels like a dirty secret I’m hiding. Sure that bug/exploit was cool or whatever, but it’s the last one I’ll ever find!
I gave Claude 3 the entire source of a small C GIF decoding library I found on GitHub, and asked it to write me a Python function to generate random GIFs that exercised the parser. Its GIF generator got 92% line coverage in the decoder and found 4 memory safety bugs and one hang.
Around 2003 in Chile, when the original trilogy of Star Wars began airing on television there, they did this funny thing to avoid cutting to commercial breaks. They stitched the commercials into the films themselves. Here is one of them, with the English dub added in.

my accomplishments in 2023 felt thin compared to years prior, but there will be years of wild growth and other years of refinement. in 2023, i moved across the country, began a new job, finished my masters, lost 35lbs, and continued to work behind the scenes on myself.
what do you want to do professionally in 2024? i would like to keep working toward a career in leadership, as one day i'd like to move into a CISO role. going to work on keeping my technical skills sharp, but also beginning to hone my people-leading and strategic skills.
