The whole point of this circus is to ascend. Earth gave you trauma, lust, ego, money, fear, exes, taxes and algorithms, and you still think the mission is to get comfortable? The Demiurge doesn’t have to be understood as some evil being sitting outside the universe, keeping us trapped in matter. The Demiurge is the ego within us….the part of consciousness that divides reality into categories, gives everything a name, and then mistakes those names for reality. It creates a world out of things like memories, judgments, fears, desires, identities, and expectations, then convinces us that this mental construction is the world. Like the Demiurge of the old Gnostic stories, it believes itself to be the ruler of everything because it cannot see beyond the boundaries of what it has created. Liberation isn’t about escaping the material world. True liberation is seeing through the false world the ego has built on top of it. The trees aren’t the prison. The body isn’t the prison. Ordinary life isn’t the prison. The prison is the endless commentary telling us what everything means, what we are, what other people are, what should have happened, and what must happen next. When that internal machinery becomes quiet the external world remains, but the Demiurge loses its throne. What’s left is reality before we divide it, name it, judge it, and turn it into something else.

The highest form of spirituality is materialism. I’m not talking about materialism in the sense of buying things or accumulating possessions, but in absolute devotion to the material world directly in front of us. A lot of spirituality teaches us to do the opposite. The body is here in the world, but the ego is somewhere else searching for higher dimensions, astral realms, supernatural beings, altered states, enlightenment, anything more extraordinary than this ordinary moment. We call it “transcendence”, but often it’s just another way of refusing to be where we are. Eventually the entire path brings you back to the place you started. Back to washing dishes, drinking tea, training, working, growing old, loving people, and paying attention to the few feet of earth beneath your feet. You stop trying to escape the material world and begin inhabiting it completely. You realize that the sacred was never hiding somewhere behind the world.
