some raw thoughts on building in crypto vs. consumer so far. and to preface, it’s been generally fun, but the contrasts are very noticeable: - there are nearly no real distribution channels. and the ones that do exist (like KOLs) charge disproportionate amounts without verifiable attribution beyond referrals (which users often avoid!). think up to $1/impression, while in consumer you can be at ~$1 CPM - users are way more involved, naturally, for better and for worse. the upside is that they can become that key distribution channel you’re missing! - esp when you’re designing a flywheel or adding a new mechanic, a surprising amount of time goes into thinking through second-order behavior (likely to be truer on gamefi than other crypto niches) - userbase metrics like to peak at launch instead of compounding over time (similar to social products with viral launches). naturally a skill diff though! we're working to amend this - generally much higher expectations around access to the team, something you don’t really see in any other industry - there's a constant tension between building for the users you have today vs. building for the next wave got more. maybe post later if this gets interest we keep going boys

@GarrettLorman @projectmars_rh @0xtopological you need to use second order thinking. drillers power the economy, if there's no one drilling your land, then your income goes to zero. and drillers naturally favor higher levels. it all comes back to volume. token volume, drilling volume. this rebate is necessary.

will gladly listen to feedback but rn you're just bitching about a chat feature that was delayed by a few days while we're shipping a space mmo and working with dozens of communities across nft/trenches to try onboard new players over the coming weeks. the land owners feedback is something we're aware of, but $800k+ was awarded, and with incoming volume (which we're doing our best to bring), then that number will only continue to go up. the issues rn stem only from that lack of volume, nothing else!

well that’s how it is, holding land and not risking drill gets no immediate benefits here. drilling is -ev so we give a rebate, while land ownership earns passive rewards that scale with the current “volume”. we’re aware volume is low now, so new horizons does aim to fix some of these issues with land owneship
