Last week, around this time, I preached in a taxi with 6 others present. I'd gotten in, didn't have enough sleep, and there was gospel music playing, and most were singing along, God asked me to preach, I said ah, I haven't prepared anything, I am even tired to, this music is enough no? And I tried to delay by looking for a viewpoint to anchor the short sermon on, I was frustrated, nothing was coming; so I just went for it. I stutter when I cannot pace, and so preaching in a taxi is a miracle for me. I begin as I always do: I bring you good news from the great king, who holds all things even the minute details of our lives in delicate care. Everyone stopped. In that minute, the driver reduced the volume, I thought "at least embarrass me, so I can shut up and mind my business" I continued and thought through the cares of our lives and how they are not lost on God, and how God makes us want to love him by first loving us. Also, he gives us rest for our weary souls and our hustling is not lost on God, he wants to bless our hands, but he wants us to see his heart. We prayed and that was it. I now commit everyone who listened to that word into his hands, and that the fruits are for God's harvest, I am merely a gardener. When I came down from the taxi, I felt a little death to my shame, it was something I fought until I yielded, but ultimately, I know a God who fought his own death, but for me; the joy set before him, he endured the cross. I can endure the little deaths to my ego and pride, if it imperfectly mimics the big death of Jesus Christ on the cross for me.

Problem is that some of you Christians are not convinced God loves you, that's why you pray the way you do, because you hope that the intensity guarantees acceptance. You are not a stranger to God if you have his Spirit, stop manipulating someone that already calls you his own.

We don’t teach enough about the idols of the heart in the Church today. There’s a reason why the devil is a great deceiver, it’s because his methods are not designed to be obvious to the watching eyes. What do I mean? You are a married woman looking for a child for years, you get a child, a great gift from God and then you make that child your God, the condensation of God’s goodness to you. The child takes up your time for devotion, you are now carried away by the cares of that Child. The devil’s work is done. A good gift has taken the place of the giver. You want to be prosperous, now the money is coming, you are progressing in your career, salary raises, but you don’t attend Wednesday Bible Study again (a self sub), prayer meeting oho, you are okay to play nasty office politics to advance your career, you are willing to take credit for someone’s work, you are happy to backbite to advance yourself, you are comforted that God is with you because your pension is growing, your family is living comfortably, but you’ve made your work and your getting your God. The Devil doesn’t have to struggle too hard with your soul, it’s firmly in his hands. You are dating and dating and dating, and it’s not because of anything, you just need the sweetness of someone telling you you are their everything, at the expense of a God who already says you are his everything. And so you are having sex outside of marriage as a way to keep this person, you are open to emotionally manipulating them to keep their love… The Devil just needs to keep you on that treadmill of acceptance, his work is fairly done. For some of us, it’s acceptance, a new friend group you’ve always wanted to be a part of. But they do despicable things, but your need for acceptance outweighs your love for God, you don’t see it. You are happy to now attend raves if it offers you acceptance, you are willing to bend over your values for a few Snapchat pictures. The devil just has to keep giving you that, and raising the bar for your acceptance, his work is done. We see this scattered all over the holy scriptures. A small detour if you give it time, will become a big one. We were giving offerings the other day at @ekoreformedch and I don’t remember the exact words @tinobobotweets uses, but they were: we give because money is not our God, because money does not have us. And you must be reminded, the battle for your soul is quite an easy one if you are not alert. As Jide says it: 12:01 is not 12:00, you just need to give it time. The gospel that we know is not Jesus and money, or Jesus and affection, it is Jesus alone. Anything else is 12:01. So when we fight against the prosperity gospel, it’s not because we want you to be poor, not at all. It’s that we know how easy it is for money to replace God especially when that’s already a strong desire of your heart. Also, for most, the desire for wealth is how they measure God in their lives and so if you can’t see God in your life in times of little or none at all, then there’s a fundamental sickness of the heart. Does it crush you to the depth of your soul when you are poor? Do you ascribe the presence of God as the presence of money? That my friend is the tool of the devil, and he may as well give you the money if he knows you will mistake it for God. Again, it is not that we will have you be poor, not at all, it is that if God is expendable in your quest for riches, acceptance, love and the likes, then the work on your heart is not yet done. Have you let go of the idols of your heart? That’s the question that begs answering.

And what a wonderful thing to realise he taught through the book of Ephesians in 1992. And today. I finally confronted the doctrine of election and predestination. My biggest fear for Nigeria is no longer how bad things are. It is that the Nigerians who have never known anything better are becoming the majority. And when it was about to expire, we applied for an extension. And we were just about our business waiting for the extension to come out only for us to get a rejection mail. And I had a few days to leave the country ASAP. My husband wanted to start running around seeing how to appeal the rejection without me leaving but I just told him “babe let’s leave it. I’ll go.” I was not sure what God was doing but I trusted Him. And so I came back to Nigeria. I went about my Fathers business like nothing dey sup. Trusting the one who has called me. Then the dots began to connect. Then came Covabodi festival. You know how that went to the glory of God Then came brand ambassadorial roles. If I tell you the other things God helped me achieve in this trip ehn,you’ll open your mouth in wonder. Like, I began to understand that Canada did not send me away. God brought me back to carry out specific assignments. One morning we woke up and I got a email. “Congratulations Deborah, you’re now a permanent resident of Canada” Yup. You’re looking at the latest Canadian permanent resident. When I flew into Canada last week, I bounced in there like a madam. I’m sharing this testimony to let you know that you need to trust God completely with your life. You see that scripture that says all things work together for good? I need you to believe it with everything inside of you Your wedding plans scattered? It’s working for your good They served you breakfast? It’s working for your good You did not get that opportunity? It’s working for your good. Be pro-active, play your part, send in the application, do all that you should do and leave the rest to God You may not see what God is doing in the moment, but as long as you’re faithfully serving and following God, just trust Him. Case in point that makes me sad. For three years, I've powered our security lights as a backup on my inverter, everyone likes it, but no one switches off the bulbs on their respective floors when they go out in the morning. I've mentioned it, but no one cares.

@TheCharlesIsidi I’m guessing you need the lights too so don’t bother disconnecting it, cos they most likely won’t care either way. If you can get the sensor and then ask them to contribute pay for it and/or its installation, let it auto off and on, better for you.
