This has got to be one of the weirdest stories we’ve ever come across about #Taiwan. It is wild! In 1704, a fantastical book was published in London, England titled "An Historical and Geographical Description of #Formosa." islandfolklore.com/frenchman-pret…

Découvrez la légende de la gelée glacée taïwanaise "Aiyu", une friandise rafraîchissante et naturelle, star des étés à Taïwan. Merci à @islandfolklore pour l'article original ! insidetaiwan.net/gastronomie/la…
Taibao in Chiayi County, #Taiwan, is home to several shrines revering the Asian water buffalo. The original shrine, built in the 70s, was visited by former ROC president Chiang Ching-kuo, who offered grass and a pail of water in 1978, and a much larger temple was built in 1988.
@ivan_palcar @islandfolklore There’s also a book that I would like to get my hands on, but it’s all in Chinese as far as I know. The title is 妖怪臺灣 and you can buy it online pretty easily. There’s also an interview with the author here: bit.ly/3HbKpGJ
@ivan_palcar @islandfolklore And for religious things, the best site that I’ve found is this one: religion.moi.gov.tw/#
It’s not easy to use though. Search for the deity using its Chinese name, then click this site’s results from the search results. Then scroll down to the bottom of the site for English.
@ivan_palcar I don’t know if you follow @islandfolklore already, but they do a great job of making Taiwanese myths and cultural events accessible to an English speaking audience. Their site is: islandfolklore.com
