This year’s International Day of the Girl Child theme, “#EndChildMarriage and Invest in Girls,” serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect girls’ rights, promote access to education and healthcare, and create opportunities for every girl to reach her full potential. Every girl deserves dignity, opportunity, and a future free from child marriage. In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, we marked the occasion this week through our #DignityPadDrive, distributing sanitary pads to girls, including learners at #Mandera School for the Deaf. Menstrual health is fundamental to girls’ dignity, well-being, and education. No girl should miss school because of limited access to menstrual hygiene products or experience stigma and shame associated with menstruation. Every girl deserves the confidence and support to learn, grow, and pursue her aspirations without barriers. Through this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to breaking barriers, promoting menstrual dignity, and creating an inclusive environment where every girl, including those living with disabilities, has the opportunity to thrive. 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 ‘𝐐𝐚𝐫𝐱𝐢𝐬’ - 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 Dr. Abdi Salat Noor, a consultant physician at Garissa County Referral Hospital and head of the Department of Education and Research, has warned against the misuse of steroids. He said prolonged and unregulated use can disrupt the normal function of the adrenal glands and lead to serious health complications. Dr. Abdi explained that the misuse of steroids, commonly known as the “Qarxis” phenomenon, can cause hormonal imbalance, weakened immunity and other long-term health effects. He urged members of the public to seek medical advice before using such medications.

Together with fellow Members of the National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal Security, we conducted an oversight visit to the GSU camp in Mombasa and witnessed deeply concerning living conditions facing our officers. It is unacceptable for officers entrusted with safeguarding our nation to live in overcrowded rooms, rely on poorly maintained shared sanitation facilities, and endure leaking roofs and inadequate amenities.
