I would happily sell all our attacking signings since 2019 for the right price - that's an indictment on them and the board. However, it must also be kept in mind that these guys aren't jokers. If they haven't developed well, the staff must accept some responsibility too.
- Pulisic showed flashes of being an elite wide forward in 19/20. - Werner came off a 30 goal season. - Havertz was seen as a generational talent. - Lukaku almost single-handedly won the Italian league. - Ziyech was a star in the CL/Holland. All of them have become bad. All.
This is not to say Tuchel out or whatever before people see it that way but he does have a degree of responsibility for our attackers not growing - even the young ones - over the past year. I still fully trust him but you cannot in good conscience say he has improved our FWs.
It is easy to fall into a cycle of self-pity but we're not as bad offensively as results say. The above guys are legitimately good. We binned one of the best young goalscorers in the world purely out of spite. We have good players and an elite manager. It has to come together.
@ExpectedChelsea I do think perspective here - we spent all summer building a system where we have either 352 2 CF's and a 10 or 343 2 10's and 1 CF. The entire game was stretched with wingbacks. It's what turned it into 325 at times or 334 and that system doesn't work with Azpi/Alonso...
@ExpectedChelsea Pep doesn't change their structure now, it's always the same but you can play Mahrez, Grealish, Sterling, Foden, Jesus, Silva in the same positions and they know the mechanisms perfectly. That's why their depth is better. For us our depth can't play that system
