One result of presenting yourself as without a POV — committed to fair and accurate reporting of what others think, not as committed to disclosing where you're coming from yourself — is that you have multiple attack surfaces where any slip of the mask can be unfairly weaponized.

@jayrosen_nyu A target-rich environment for bad-faith actors.
@jayrosen_nyu So, diversity in staffing /= diversity of opinion without strong editorial leadership. Not a bad lesson to learn.
@jayrosen_nyu In other words you can be easily swept off your feet when you do reveal a P.O.V.?
@jayrosen_nyu I'm so tired of the good guys letting themselves be bullied by the bad guys into obeying in advance.
@jayrosen_nyu Are you addressing NPR's "presentation of a lack of point of view" or Uri Berliner's? I think I know, but ambiguity is a mind killer.
@jayrosen_nyu I see comments here and there from officials in other countries that indirectly say they dont expect the US to survive w/democracy intact. I cant help but think they are right, but I also think that a functioning press would have made all the difference. I dont understand why
@jayrosen_nyu Mr. Berliner got what he wanted, an exploding controversy and a classic tool to “Work the Refs,” during an election year.
@jayrosen_nyu @uberliner belongs at Newsmax or Fox. He was always a misfit at NPR. He overstayed his welcome
@jayrosen_nyu @MarkJacob16 The GOP confuses "right to an opinion" with Fact based reporting. When Opinions are based on fiction there is no place for them in the news. NPR has already become a tool bending over backwards to both sides for trump and the GOP. All about fund raising and donations "Big Tent."
@jayrosen_nyu Oh, I always hear a pov if I decide to listen. But it's not good. It's never good. It's palpable.
