DeCosta said that he still sees plenty of offensive linemen the team likes on Day 2.
DeCosta said the Ravens had eight different options to trade back. He said one team called them to trade up and DeCosta said, "No thanks. ... That's not really something we do."
DeCosta: "It became apparent that if we didn't get a corner in the first half, it was going to get challenging" to get one later.
DeCosta said Clemson HC Dabo Sweeney was texting Ravens officials during the first round, encouraging them to take Nate Wiggins. DeCosta said the Ravens met with Wiggins both at combine and at Ravens facility.
DeCosta on Wiggins: "He's a ridiculous athlete. In our division, we play a lot of good receivers. You got to get off the field on third down."
Harbaugh: "When you watch the tape, he comes up and smacks people. He's not afraid of the physical part of it at all. The weight doesn't impede him at all." DeCosta: "He'll gain weight."
Harbaugh: "You see him as an outside corner, but he plays inside as well. He gives us another quality starting corner. We were excited. We were looking for Nate."
DeCosta said that the Ravens had a lot of trade possibilities, but if "Nate were there, we were going to make that pick." He said they would have strongly considered trading out if Wiggins wasn't available.
DeCosta said he felt like the Ravens had to come out of the 1st round with either a corner or an OL. "Honestly I didn't think Nate would be there for us."
Eric DeCosta: "We're very, very excited to draft Nate Wiggins. In my opinion, the best cover corner in the draft. Ecstatic that he fell to us."
Wiggins is the first corner the Ravens have taken in the first round since Marlon Humphrey in 2017.
The Ravens love long and fast corners and Wiggins is 6-foot-1 and he runs a 4.28 in the 40. There are questions about Wiggins’ slight frame and how he’ll hold up against physical receivers, but he can run with anyone and he plays with anticipation and awareness.
At 30, Ravens are taking Clemson CB Nate Wiggins.
