Bad weather stops play. A storm hit the mountain, pouring rain & freezing fog. Couldn't feel my fingers, so stopped at the next hotel to see about a room. A roaring log fire told me I was in the right place! Room is a bit like my granny's spare room c.1983 but it's cheap & dry.
Another day of getting lost in the Fes medina! Picked up some bits for the next leg of the journey, particularly dried fruit and nuts to help with my fuelling on the bike. I've seen enough of Fes now. Two days is more than enough in one place- itching to get going again 🚴♂️⛰️👊
Something to eat in a service station cafe, with the North London derby on in the background. The Premier League is massive in Morocco, with Arsenal the preferred team. I'm about 55km in, battling with the constant uphill. There's no respite- when you stop pedalling, you stop!

It does take some getting used to. As an introvert, it was overwhelming at first. But I love it now. Of course, sometimes I'm not really in the mood, but I don't want to leave a bad impression, so I do the high fives and answer the questions, and usually feel better for it.
This is, by far, one of the most spectacular things I've ever seen. So magnificent!! I pray the world keeps saving the whales.🐳🙏

The plan going forward was always coast, desert, mountains. With one eye on the increasing heat however, I am thinking I might flip it round. Tackle the Atlas Mountains now before it gets too hot, and finish on the coast, where it's always a little cooler.

The advantage of doing a trip like this with minimal planning is that you can tear up the blueprint without any drama. Have decided to attack the High Atlas Mountains first up. Having another day here to prepare, then onwards and most definitely upwards! ⛰️🙈
I've only seen one other cycle traveller in Morocco- but I have now bumped into him twice! This is Joel from France. We first met on the road out of Chefchaouen, and this morning I'm wandering about in the Fes medina, and he comes round the corner. Small world!
The Bab Bou Jeloud gate is one of the entrances to the Fes El Bali, the ancient walled medina that was founded in 789. I had a brief wander through this morning, before a lunch of chicken pastilla- a filo pastry pie of chicken, egg, almonds and various spices.

This is my first ride since April 1. The body is still not well after flu, stomach flu, more flu, hay fever and peri-menopause mental and physical mayhem (oh joy) However an hour ride is also a ride so lowering the standards and trying to enjoy.
