MAiD was established after a court case ruled it needed to satisfy the charter. But at the same time the government at all levels has a moral obligation to ensure Canadas vulnerable don’t have an easier time accessing death than they do resources for a good quality life.
There’s the conversation around “dignity” and “choice” and this is absolutely a component, no doubt. But if your quality of life is none existent and you’re paralyzed and literally rotting in a bed with a failed health system the balance of choices are not weighted fairly.
@jenniferelle_ Aren't those the services Conservatives always cut?
The Charter is amazing. It forces governments to provide open abortion up to 9 months. It forces the Government to take the life of citizens, making MAiD one of the leading causes of death in Canada. But what the Charter couldn’t do was guarantee the right of Canadians to freedom of movement. Freedom of conscience. Bodily autonomy. Medical choice. The right to be at the bedside of a dying loved one. The right to be free from medical discrimination. The Charter is a wonderful wax nose controlled by us Liberals to shape Canadian society after the image of Dear Leader Justin Trudeau.
@jenniferelle_ Bed sores should not meet the de-minimus level.
@jenniferelle_ Very true. And recall what Germany's Aktion-T4 programme was based on.
@jenniferelle_ Sadly, many of those who work for the Government don’t believe they have a moral obligation to do anything for anyone besides themselves. They take the wages, but won’t perform the duties and don’t get fired. troymedia.com/politicslaw/tr…
