Have had several students tell me to F$&? Off this year after telling them to put their phones on my desk for the rest of the day. As usual no consequences for their behaviour, but I did get some nasty emails from parents about it.
People don’t get the level of addiction that kids have to their phones these days. You take those devices away and violence in schools will only escalate. Get between someone and ANY addiction is trouble. The real problem is educators don’t have support from parents & admin.
